Mariah Carey Leaves Longtime Manager

Following her recent separation from her husband, Sony Music Entertainment CEO Tommy Mottola, Mariah Carey has now also split from her manager of four years, Randy Hoffman.

HOBART (04 Aug 1997)- Since the Merry Christmas album was released in 1994, Ms Carey has been managed by Hoffman Entertainment. But the arrangement is now no more. Spokespeople for Ms Carey indicate that the split from Hoffman was mutual.

Between 1991 and 1993 Ms Carey was managed by Horizon Entertainment, during which time she released Emotions, MTV Unplugged and the highly successful Music Box. Ms Carey's debut album was released while she was signed with Champion Entertainment.

Ms Carey will now be managed by the renowned Los Angeles based company Gallin-Morey.

There has been speculation that the split is connected to the separation of Ms Carey and her husband, as Mr Hoffman and Mr Mottola are good friends.

However, the hard-edged R&B style of Mariah Carey's new single, Honey, suggests that the split may just be symptomatic of a new direction for the diva.

It is unlikely that Ms Carey would be dissatisfied with Hoffman Entertainment, who have seen the star progress from strength to strength with all-time record breaking chart successes with the singles Fantasy and One Sweet Day from the Daydream album. Both singles were Billboard number one debuts, with Fantasy being the first ever for a female artist. The unparalleled success of One Sweet Day saw Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men jointly receive a special award at the 1996 Billboard Music Awards. Further details of the new single Honey can be found below.
