007 to 00-Soul

The singer who once laughed at the possibility of a career in movies appears to have now accepted two roles.

Mariah's interest in movies was first demonstrated by the departure of the Honey video clip from the usual storyless montages. The clip bears strong resemblance to the James Bond formula, and the bikini which Mariah wears in the opening scenes is modelled on that worn by the Honey Ryder character from Dr No.

00-Soul is yet another spoof of the secret agent genre immortalized by the James Bond films, starring Chris Tucker (Ruby Rhodd from The Fifth Element). Tucker plays a bungling secret agent who is entrusted with preserving world security when all the top agents are taken out. Mariah seems likely to be cast as the step-daughter of the arch-villain.

Since late last year, Mariah has been closely involved with the production of a movie for Disney's Touchstone Pictures with the working title All That Glitters. The movie is about the rise to fame of a singer living in a multi-racial family of the 70's, and so will borrow some aspects from Mariah's own life story.

Filming of All That Glitters was expected to begin in July and take three months, but this clashes with the 00-Soul schedule, so it has been rescheduled to later this year. It is almost certain that the movie will spawn a soundtrack that features Mariah.

My All Down Under

In Australia, the recently released My All single contains three cuts of the track aside from the album version, all mixed by the familiar David Morales.

The Classic Club Mix has a Latino feel, and while it has a marginally faster tempo, it is more faithful to the original album cut than most of Morales' other dance remixes of Mariah's songs.

Classic Radio Mix is merely a truncated version of the Classic Club Mix, and My Club Mix is an intermediate length version which differs in only minor ways.

It is disappointing that no Morales remix of The Roof was included with the single, although fans do get a free sticker for purchasing three copies of the same remix.

Still Promoting

Mariah has been actively promoting Butterfly across Europe and the United States in recent months.

There have been signing sessions in locations like France and Spain, and television and radio appearances from the UK to Germany.

The number of specials and guest appearances in the US has also not subsided, culminating recently with the Divas Live performance (including Aretha Franklin, Celine Dion and Shania Twain), and an appearance on The Rosie O'Donnell Show.
