Apple

Apple was founded by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in 1976, and released a series of 6502-based microcomputers beginning with Apple I kit, followed by the Apple II, II+, IIe, IIc and IIGS.

Jobs developed an interest in the GUI work at Xerox PARC which resulted in the Xerox Alto. After purchasing the rights to various key intellectual components, Apple would create its first GUI based computer in the form of the Lisa. However, Lisa was expensive, and attracted limited interest from third parties to develop applications software.

A second attempt at a GUI computer resulted in a cheaper model which had much more success: the Macintosh. Launched in 1984, the Macintosh was followed by a large number of successors:
