From The Archer Review, Issue 4: Thanksgiving Special Preview (Mon 23 Oct 1995)
A second remix maxi-single containing five bass-driven club mixes of Fantasy has now been released in Australia and the United Kingdom. This brings us into line with the United States, which had the Fantasy double twelve inch vinyl set in stores several weeks ago.
Together, the MC Mix, The Boss Mix and Sweet Dub Mix form an extended version of David Morales potent Def Club Mix from the first remix single. At over 23 minutes in length, this extended club mix should keep any dance freak happy.
The Radio Mix is David Morales attempt at a radio length edit, and boy does he pack the dance energy into those four minutes. Puffy's Club Mix is virtually indifferentiable from the Bad Boy Fantasy mix from the original maxi-single, with some ODB thrown in for good (or bad) measure.
The Daydream Interlude from the album is a cut down version of the Sweet Dub Mix with some extra vocals from Mariah. It is a fitting separator between the first ten tracks of the album and the spectacular and emotionally potent Looking In.
Internetters from around the globe joined in the fun on the IRC Undernet chat system's Mariah channel recently. Daydream albums, whizzing around in their respective CD players, were synchronized from the United States to Europe to Asia to Australia, as Mariah fans united to enjoy the music and share their thoughts and feelings.
Songs were compared and discussed, with a general feeling of immense warmth and approval. The general consensus was that this album is special! As the world rocked to the beat of Always Be My Baby, a potential hit cowritten with Jermaine Dupri, the automatic Mariahbot sang the Daydream Interlude. Drinks were passed around, pizza's were ordered, and snacks were cooked by would-be chefs.
The party-goers cried at Mariah's Looking In, a special track which touches the hearts of her fans everywhere. They joked about Long Ago, and how much the style mimics Brandy. The music drew everyone through the full spectrum of emotional states- such is the power of Mariah's vocalizations.
Mariah impersonators were the flavour of the day, and some were almost believable. Many were fooled, others were not, but it was all in good fun. As the morning hours drew on, the partiers dissipated.
Some of the stayers noticed that the master of the Vision of Love page on the World Wide Web had been lurking behind the scenes. There was speculation that he had caught all the crazy proceedings on file, and that he was going to pass the transcripts on to Mariah herself at the Madison Square Gardens concert. Faces grew red, and heads were hung in shame, as the remaining revellers remembered "the night before the morning after". What a party!
Mariah's involvement, dedication and support for charity is continuing, with all proceeds of ticket sales to her recent New York concert going to the Fresh Air Fund. The FAF is one of Mariah's favourite charities, and one which she frequently offers support to.
Camp Mariah, a project to nurture musical talent in street kids, is another area in which Mariah demonstrates her ongoing community support. Some of the New York kids from the camp were at the recent concert also, though they were reluctant to sing their camp song!
Most of Mariah's past singles and albums have been used to raise money for charities, and this continues with Daydream, which also supports the Fresh Air Fund.
