From The Archer Review, Issue 7: The Honey Edition (Mon 04 Aug 1997)
The premiere single from the forthcoming Butterfly album is called Honey and is a raw R&B groove produced by Sean "Puffy" Coombs, in the same vein as Always Be My Baby.
The Bad Boy Mix, which has been airing regularly on US radio for almost two weeks, features the rappers Mase and The Lox. Also included on the radio promo release disc is the LP Version, which has no rap verses.
The track features a sample from Hey DJ by the Supreme Team, a song which was rerecorded by Lighter Shade Of Brown in 1994.
The single is due for release on 26th August.
The video for Honey debuted last week around the world, and has been described as a mini-movie.
In James Bond style, we are told at the beginning of the video that Agent M is to be detained at all costs.
Agent M (Mariah) is being held captive in a mansion, but by seducing one of the guards, she manages to break free and leap into the pool. Removing her dress to reveal a bikini, she leaves the pool and escapes via jet ski, persued by a pair of henchmen.
The action continues, a la Bond, until at the end of the video she stands alongside her 'honey'.
Set in Puerto Rico and directed by Paul Hunter, the video is very different from anything Mariah has attempted before.
Mariah has also not ruled out an acting role in the future, something which she has vehemently denied in the past.
Butterfly is to be released on 16th September, and as was the case with Music Box and Merry Christmas, releases outside the US are expected to have a bonus track.
As previously reported, other tracks on the album include the title track Butterfly, which was initially believed to be the first single.
Baby Doll, an R&B track featuring Missy Elliot is also earmarked to be a single. Also featured on the album are members of Bone Thugs and Harmony, who worked on the track Break Down.
As has been the case since Mariah arrived on the music scene, Australian personality Ian "Molly" Meldrum is set to do another interview with the diva.
On Wednesday, Mr Meldrum will meet with Mariah in Los Angeles to do the latest in his series of Mariah Carey interviews.
